The Hunt

The “hunt” is how we at By Design refer to our process of working with our clients. Twice a year, as part of the hunt, By Design travels to the heart of the design industry in High Point, NC. Here, we peruse the International Furniture Market in search of the perfect items for our clients as well as our studio.

These trips also give us the opportunity to discover what next season’s trends will be, as well as bring back samples of materials for our clients to look at.

Market

Each morning, we depart the hotel armed with fabric samples and our clients’ wish lists, and catch the shuttle to market. The next 4-5 days are spent exploring, taking photos, purchasing new product, and taking care of our embattled feet. Eventually we return, exhausted but enthused to share everything with our clients and coworkers.

We are looking forward to our April trip to market. The theme for this market is “Inspiring Design.” Our tickets are booked, and we are excited to bring back some interesting and inspiring trends for you.

Fashion in the Home

The theme for fall market 2012 was “Fashion in the Home.” We like to see our clients identify with home trends the same way they would with fashion trends.

Following trends set by the industry, whether in a big or small way, is up to you. For example, adding a dramatic piece of jewelry to a simple black dress makes a statement, as does adding a variety of patterned pillows to a neutral sofa.

When deciding how daring you want to be with home décor, your closet is a great place to find inspiration. At By Design Interiors, we would love to help your home become a reflection of your personal fashion style.

Layering

With home décor, it is easy for a room to become one dimensional or too plain. To combat this, we use layering, which adds an interesting new dimension to any display. Layering can also be a cost effective way to bring some pop to a boring room, and can be as simple as something such as adding a pillow or a framed picture.

Think of layering in the home like you would in clothing, necklaces, scarves, and sweaters under jackets, etc. make an outfit more interesting. Layering in home decor does the same thing.

Repurposing

In home design, repurposing is a way of recycling unused objects and finding a new and creative way to showcase it in the home. We often go into a client’s home, and have them bring out items from storage and help them come up with a way to use them in their home.

You never know what you might find when your cleaning your closet or scouring through your grandmother’s attic! There are endless ways to repurpose new and old treasures, and we would be happy to give you a hand!
